What you need to do right after a workplace injury in Florida

If you are hurt while doing your job, you may be entitled to a claim under the Florida Workers’ compensation laws. However, it is imperative that you follow the right steps when filing your claim. 

Here are three important things you need to do following an injury in the workplace in Florida.

Focus on your recovery

Clearly, this is the most important thing you must do. It is important that you get immediate attention following your injury. Even if your injury seems minor at first, it can escalate into a lifelong condition if you are not properly treated. Be sure to get a full assessment of your injuries from a qualified healthcare provider. While at the doctor’s office, ensure that you obtain a comprehensive medical report from the healthcare provider because you will need it when dealing with the insurance company.

Report the accident and injury to your employer

It is important that you notify the employee of your injury as soon as you can. Failing to report your injury within 30 days can result in denial of your claim even if your case is clearly valid. Therefore, be sure to obtain the “First Report of Injury or Illness” report from your employer and fill it out promptly.

File the compensation claim

Your employer is obliged to file a claim with the insurance company within seven days of your report. The insurance company is then required to provide you with an informational brochure within three business days of receiving a notice of claim from your employer.
