Common causes of construction site injuries

On Behalf of Matheson and Horowitz | Jun 23, 2022 | Workers' Compensation |

Working in the construction industry comes with a level of risk you can’t avoid or ignore. While most construction companies have implemented practices to help keep workers safe, accidents still happen.

Knowing some of the most common accidents on construction sites is the best way to be prepared and take steps to ensure they don’t happen. Keep reading to find out some of the most common causes of construction site accidents and injuries.

Falls

The main cause of injuries in the construction industry is falling. Workers can fall from just a few feet to several hundred feet, depending on their work. Falls can cause devastating injuries and even fatalities.

Accidents involving vehicles

Working in construction requires the use of large machines, equipment and vehicles. Due to the size and weight of these machines, a collision with a person can be fatal. Workers and drivers must take additional precautions to avoid an accident. Along with being struck or run over by a vehicle or equipment, you may also be crushed against a wall or another stationary object.

Electrocution hazards

Working with wires and electricity in any way puts workers at risk for electrocution. It’s essential to check and double-check that there are no live wires before doing any work in the area.

Staying safe as a construction worker

Even with the best safety plans, accidents still happen on construction sites. If a worker is injured, they have the right to file a workers’ compensation claim to recover the damages and losses they suffered. Since these claims can often be difficult and confusing, workers should know their rights and work with a legal professional to increase the chances they receive the benefits they are entitled to
